An Open
Invitation to Participate in -- "THE
MOMENT" -- Dr. Freeman's Latest Book Project
Know Me™ is the

trust and relationships used in over 20 countries by many
different types of organizations. |
 |
Know Me™ is for
-integrating teams
-managing change
-turning diversity into a strength
-building communities
-enhancing personal mastery
-improving communications |
|
Know Me is a unique and innovative system of board games which is:
- a fun, non-threatening experience,
- a process where people meet as equals and break down barriers,
- a flexible tool for addressing hot button issues, such as
diversity, change,
teamwork, leadership, organizational values, career management & the
environment.
|
"I felt heard and respected. There was no need to jockey for air
time or to justify my perspective. I was
struck by the power of dialogue and how seldom we use it..."
"Even though I'm tired,
I don't want to quit..." "An hour and a half is too
short. I want more..." "This is so good - I'll use it with my
therapy group, but I think I'll also invite some friends over to
play..." "I've known all the people at my table for years, but
not like this."
--
said by participant after playing the game
"Teams that
participated in the game were visibly moved. Later in the follow
up, they reported that the impact it had made on team relationships
was very noticeable. The team members not only knew and understood
each other better, but communication in the team had increased
significantly..." -- Blanchard Training & Development
"After receiving
kudos in front of other Department Heads for the Know Me game
offering, I received more requests for assistance. It is a powerful
tool for closing the distance between team member's perceived
differences...I first saw this game in action at ASTD two years ago
and I knew then it was something I should buy..."

KnowMe™ is based
on the Disclosure/Feedback model of awareness known as the
Johari Window, named after Joseph Luft and Harry Ingham. It
was first used in an information session at the Western
Training Laboratory in Group Development in 1955.
The success of an
organization is dependent on its people and how they
interact with each another. KnowMe™ games enhance
the effectiveness of participants' interactions, enabling
them to work as a team to overcome problems. Know Me™ won the Product of the Year Award from the Federation of Human Resources Development Associations of Canada for outstanding results in supporting learning in 1995.
Used by organizations like
Blanchard Training & Development, BMW, Amoco, Royal Bank of
Canada, Ace Hardware, Defense Systems Management College (DOD),
YWCA, Uddannelseshuset (Denmark), University of British Columbia,
Wits University (South Africa), U.S. Postal Service, Bell
Canada, Calgary Police, Hewlett Packard, Johnson & Johnson,
Northern Telecom, Prudential, Saturn Corporation, Pepsi
Cola, Proctor & Gamble, McDonald's, Kinney Shoe,
Hitotsubashi University (Japan), KPMG Management
Consultants, IBM, G.E. Medical, Chevron, Carrier,
Corporation, BP, Deloitte & Touche, the South African Peace Committees, and
many others -- the suite of KnowMe™ games has
proved to be such a success because they address real situations.
As the players deal with these issues together they learn to
improve their communication skills, build trust within the
group and develop their own self-esteem -- available in English, French and Danish. |

 |
It is through Asking (disclosure)
and Telling (feedback) that our open pane is
expanded and that we gain access to the potential within
us represented by the unknown pane. The KnowMe™
game provides players with an opportunity to disclose
their personal beliefs, values and attitudes and to
receive feedback about how others see them. |
|
|
|
The four panes of the window
above represent the following:
Open: The open area is that part
of our conscious self - our attitudes, behavior, motivation,
values, way of life - of which we are aware and which is known
to others. We move within this area with freedom. We are
"open books". |
Blind: There are things about
ourselves which we do not know, but that others can see more
clearly; or things we imagine to be true of ourselves for a
variety of reasons but that others do not see at all. When
others say what they see (feedback), in a supportive,
responsible way, and we are able to hear it; in that way we
are able to test the reality of who we are and are able to
grow. |
Hidden: Our hidden area cannot be
known to others unless we disclose it. There is that which we
freely keep within ourselves, and that which we retain out of
fear. The degree to which we share ourselves with others
(disclosure) is the degree to which we can be known. |
Unknown: We are more rich and
complex than that which we and others know, but from time to
time something happens - is felt, read, heard, dreamed -
something from our unconscious is revealed. Then we
"know" what we have never "known" before. |
Benefits -- The themes of the cards can be chosen
according to the group's objective (leadership, team
building, diversity…). Enables groups to deepen and expand
their relationships with one another. Increases the group's
level of self-awareness. Express views, values and attitudes
on a wide range of issues. Develops the ability to
communicate more openly and affectively with others whose
views and perspectives may be different from your own.
Target group -- Individuals from any level or group
within the organization.
Methodology -- KnowMe is played by groups of 4 to 6
players. The questions on the cards enable participants to
exchange information and feelings about themselves, each
other and their organization. During the course of the game,
participants develop insights and skills for dealing with
issues among both individuals and groups. Based on concerns
raised during the play, groups can engage in evaluation and
potential solutions.
"In my opinion, the area of greatest 'lack' in homes, businesses and places of learning, is our inability to communicate with each other with integrity. Know Me is without doubt the safest and most effective process...to promote authentic
communication."
--Mike MacFarlane, South African trainer, facilitator

Know Me™ game provides
users with five major benefits:
1. Addresses real
issues: Know Me™ addresses actual workplace
issues affecting relationships and performance - it is not a
simulation. Transference of the benefit is straightforward
and immediate.
2. Teaches
communication skills: The interaction process trains the
very skills needed to maintain a healthy interaction process
in the workplace. The skills mastered during the Know Me™
experience can be practiced and improved every day.
3. Enhances personal
mastery: The experience builds personal mastery by
developing participants' self-insight and self-esteem.
4. Builds trust and
respect: The outcome of the experience is trust in the
process, in the value of dialogue, and the ease with which
communication can occur, and trust in the participants and
their ability to deal effectively with tough issues among
themselves.
5. Enhances
performance: The effectiveness and profitability of an
organization is dependent upon the way people in the
organization deal with each other and with the obstacles
that inhibit performance. The game enhances the
effectiveness of participants' interactions and puts the
real issues and problems on the table. |

The Freeman Institute has a
number of seminar
programs that can be used in concert with the KnowMe™
game.
___________________________________________________________
Think of the razor/razor blade
concept. Same game. Different experience. Brilliant.
The same game becomes a different game the next
time you play it, because of the use of one of the card sets below.
The Master "Know Me" game is required as the basic "razor" concept.
The cards are of little to no value unless used within the context
of the actual game. The game can handle between 4-6 people as a
sit-down board game. For instance, if you are having a seminar with
18 participants, you will need to purchase at least three Master
games. Or if you have 23 participants, you will need at least four
games.
The Master game has a set of Master
cards with it. We recommend that you use the Master game
the first time. Perhaps the following year you will want
to then do a seminar on "Change and Transformation."
At that time you can purchase 3-4 sets of those cards and
then the game (razor) now has a new set of cards (razor
blades) and it gives the same game a different emphasis. I
hope that this is understandable.
My suggestion is that you take a look
at the most number of participants you want to attend at
any given time and then purchase that many games. I do not
recommend more than 18 participants for the first group.
That would mean that you would need three Master games.
