SLAVE MUTINY ON THE AMISTAD--the
1840 illustration showing the captive Africans
taking over the Spanish slaving vessel, "L'Amistad," in
1839--the surviving blacks were eventually
freed by the U.S. Supreme Court in 1841.

NEWSPAPER--A first-year (1827), Volume I
complete issue of America's very first black newspaper,
published by Samuel E. Cornish and John Brown Russwurm in
New York City.

Aldridge will play the role of Shylock in

--Original hand-colored illustration by Currier
& Ives of the first Northern black regiment recruited
